Systems/processes for monitoring Health & Safety

Process:

Health & Safety training starts on day one with Keymen Associates and forms a central theme for the majority of our training courses. This training takes the form of both lectures and printed handouts that are discussed during the training sessions. The majority of our training sessions end with a quiz to test the understanding of those attending which we have always found to be a useful tool. Update Training is ongoing throughout the tenure of employment. Reviews and Audits are also undertaken regularly (Annually unless an incident dictates otherwise)

System:

Periodic Audit (12 monthly)

Consists of reviewing health and safety related documentation, interviewing selected staff and touring the workplace. The audit covers the 10 areas of an OH&S program:

  1. Leadership and Administration
  2. Hazard Identification, Assessment and Controls
  3. Safe Job Practices and Procedures
  4. Education and Training
  5. Workplace Inspections
  6. Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  7. Accident/Incident Investigations
  8. Communications
  9. Emergency Preparedness
  10. Disability Management
  11. When the audit is finished, a report is produced outlining the advisor’s observations and recommendations. During any follow-up meeting, everyone works together to set priorities and develop an action plan

Review and Risk Management

Keymen Group adopt a continuous review process whereby staff are encouraged to self assess and report.

Keymen Group staff follow the five steps as advised by the HSE as follows:

Step 1 Identify the hazards.
Step 2 Decide who might be harmed and how
Step 3 Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions
Step 4 Record your findings and implement them
Step 5 Review the assessment and update if necessary.

We also ensure that they are following all risk assessments in relation to:

  • Health & Safety
  • COSHH
  • RIDDOR
  • Infection Control
  • Any general environmental issues

These risk assessments are reviewed continuously throughout the year and staff are aware that any concerns must be reported immediately, not only for their own safety but also for those around them.

Risk Management

At Keymen Group we associate ourselves with Sensible risk management as prescribed by the HSE, this is about:

  1. Ensuring that workers and the public are properly protected
  2. Providing overall benefit to society by balancing benefits and risks, with a focus on reducing real risks – both those which arise more often and those with serious consequences
  3. Enabling innovation and learning not stifling them
  4. Ensuring that those who create risks manage them responsibly and understand that failure to manage real risks responsibly is likely to lead to robust action
  5. Enabling individuals to understand that as well as the right to protection, they also have to exercise responsibility
  6. All staff are aware of and embrace this continuous process of Health and Safety assessment.
